Best Time to Visit Garbett Plateau
Monsoon gives you the cloud and the green. Winter gives you the views and dry footing. Here is the honest trade-off.

Garbett Plateau sits above Matheran and is one of the most accessible real plateau walks from Mumbai. When you go changes the trek substantially — not just how it looks, but how hard it is.
Monsoon: June to September
This is the season people photograph. The grassland turns fully green, and cloud moves through the valley below the cliff edge continuously — on a good morning you are standing above a moving white floor.
The trade-offs are real. The trail is slick throughout, visibility at the edge can drop to a few metres, and the view you came for may simply not appear. Leeches are present on the wooded sections.
Winter: November to February
Dry footing, clear long views across the valley, and comfortable walking temperatures. Cooler early mornings. The grass is golden rather than green, which many people prefer and the photographs rarely show.
If you want to actually see the landscape rather than the cloud, this is the better window.
Summer: March to May
Not recommended. The plateau is fully exposed with almost no shade, and by mid-morning the heat is the dominant problem. We do not run this route in peak summer.
So which?
Go in monsoon for the atmosphere. Go in winter for the view. Go in both if you can — they are not the same walk.
Whichever you choose, start early. The plateau is unfenced at the edge, and afternoon visibility in monsoon deteriorates quickly.
