A descending walk through the 'dark forest' — a long, green, low-light traverse from the plateau down toward the Konkan.
Representative AURALIS trek photograph — not shot on this route.
Andharban translates roughly as dark forest, and the name is earned: the canopy closes overhead for long stretches and the light stays green and low even at midday. The route is a descent rather than a climb, starting near Pimpri dam and dropping steadily toward Bhira, which changes what it asks of you — less lung, more knees. It is longer than our other one-day routes and the ground stays wet and rooted throughout, so a reasonable base fitness and shoes with real grip matter more here than on Garbett or Devkund.
Early start for the longer drive to the Pimpri side.
Breakfast and route briefing at the trailhead.
The canopy closes in within the first kilometre.
Rest and packed lunch at a clearing.
Final stretch out of the forest toward the pickup.
Late evening return — plan for a night arrival.
